The region is supported by several universities and research centres with an in depth focus into renewable energies. These range from the National and Renewable Energy and Research Centre (NaREC) in Blyth to some of the top universities in the country such as Liverpool, Manchester and Newcastle. In addition to the research opportunities at the universities there are also a number of training providers such as Northumberland College that provide specialist training in offshore renewables.
