The North of England has developed as a multi-regional centre for international trade due to the excellent infrastructure that connects the regions to the rest of the UK and worldwide from international airports and ports to national road and rail networks.
The North of England is well connected by both road and rail. Transport networks connect the UK’s major cities running cross-country services across the Pennines and Yorkshire. This strengthens the position of companies based in the North of England in that many products can be transported west to east and vice versa creating the ideal situation for an inter-regional supply chain.
The region is supported by several universities and research centres with an in depth focus into renewable energies. These range from the National and Renewable Energy and Research Centre (NaREC) in Blyth to some of the top universities in the country such as Liverpool, Manchester, Durham and Newcastle. In addition to the research opportunities at the universities there are also a number of training providers such as Northumberland College that provide specialist training in offshore renewables.
